PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL -- Workers at Cros Ministries in Delray Beach are stocking the shelves with food for those in need.
The organization has been able to help thousands of families more than two decades because of the Food For Families drive.
Reverend Pam Cahoon with CROS Ministries said, "It's incredibly important to us because we assist almost 50 thousand people with emergency food last year. It's incredible for a news organization to be willing to do this for such a long period of time and you have stepped up and helped this community greatly in so many ways."
For the past 25 years, Food For Families has been collecting non-perishable items for those who cannot afford it. With the help of sponsor Seacoast National Bank, food is collected and distributed to more than 200 agencies.
Alex Stevens, director of Palm Beach County Community Food Alliance said, "Well with our partners at Village Baptist and CROS ministries we have two refrigerated trucks that do go out and help with the distribution of this food."
The official kick-off for Food For Families is Monday. Publix grocery stores, schools, businesses and the Boy Scouts will be collecting food, all to benefit those who have hit hard times.
Stevens adds, "Having this drive at this time of the year really provides them with resources to meet the need that's growing."
Cahoon says the food drive does make a difference in the community. "Throughout the community you are helping people not to be hungry and you are saving children's lives, so yes, you make an incredible difference."
The kick-off for Food for Families is Monday, October 12th. Beginning on Monday you will find more information about the food drive on wptv.com
