TEQUESTA, FL-- A bus stop near a sex offender's home will be moved.
The decision by the Palm Beach County School District was made the day after NewsChannel 5 first reported the story.
A school district spokesman said although it was legal to have the bus stop near the man's home, the district made the decision to ease the concern of parents.
The stop for Bak Middle School students was moved to the intersection of Country Club Drive and North Place in Tequesta a few weeks ago.
Around the same time Alexander Scholling, a registered sex offender, was released from prison and allowed to return to his home. His residence happened to be just across the street from the new bus stop.
No laws were broken but it made parents uneasy.
They say their calls to the school district went unanswered.
Even the sheriff's office claims it wasn't able to convince the district to move the stop.
But just hours after a story on the controversial stop aired on NewsChannel 5, the district decided the bus stop will have a new location.
Parents say that they are still waiting for official word about the move- but add, that they are incredibly relieved.
