PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL -- Nineteen year old Marinna Kuz is one of the main character's performing in The Nutcracker. It's more than a dance for the Florida Classical Ballet Theatre student. She's one of those who has benefited from the mentoring program led by professional dancers.
She said it's paying off now that she's in college. "Definitely having that base of discipline has helped, help keep you focused, and I really don't want to study but I have to. It's been very much of a mentorship. It gives you something to look at and say, I am doing this alright but they are doing this very well so what are they doing that I am not and what do I need to do it as well as they are."
13-year-old Eric Emerson has been dancing for the past 10 years. "It helps me to manage my time better and like not waste time on Facebook or tv and stuff and it helps me with my grades lately, I can see well if I am practicing more dancing and getting better then if I practice with my grades I'll get better in that too."
Artistic Director Colleen Smith says mentoring the young dancers will make a difference. "It's not just about creating dancers, it's giving them an incredible experience on stage being part of something that's truly professional guiding them in ways if you work this hard at this, this hard work will get you somewhere all the way through your life."
