STUART, FL — It took a while but the Stuart Police Department now has copies of surveillance tapes showing a man using a knife to steal from patrons at a North Federal Highway convenience store Nov. 27.

Investigators hope the pictures will produce information leading to the arrests of the suspect.

“A lot of these systems are proprietary,” said Sgt. Martin Jacobson of the police department. “The people in the stores don’t know how to download them and they have to go up the line to get copies.”

On Nov. 27, Jacobson said, the cameras caught a picture of a man approaching the patron in the parking lot at 1070 N. Federal Highway, ostensibly asking for directions. But then he jumped into the backseat of the car wielding a knife and robbing a passenger.

The victims tried to fight off the robber, Jacobson said, but were unsuccessful.

The robber ran off on foot along North River Shores Boulevard.

Anyone with information about this is asked to contact Detective Heather Buchanan at (772) 220-3900 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at (800) 273-TIPS.
