STUART, FL — A 27-year-old woman accused of hitting and cutting her boyfriend with a Coke glass during a Wednesday morning altercation was arrested, according to an affidavit.
Jessica Ann Gomes, of the 4500 block of Southeast Salvatori Road, faces aggravated battery (domestic) and false police report charges in connection with the 3:48 a.m. incidents at her home. Gomes initially told Martin County Sheriff’s investigators that three men “jumped” her and her boyfriend, Calvin L. Newton, outside her home. She stated she was looking at Newton when she heard glass break and then the three men “jumped” Newton, the affidavit states.
Not so, said Newton.
He told investigators he and Gomes argued and that Gomes had a Coke glass in her hand. She hit him on the side of the head, leaving cuts over his left eye, he said. Gomes kept hitting Newton with the now broken glass before Newton wrestled her to the ground, the affidavit states.
Gomes drove herself and Newton to Martin Memorial Hospital South.
Investigators said Gomes eventually “broke down” and told them she hit Newton during an argument.
Newton said three kids in the home, the eldest being 10 years old, did not see the incident.
Newton declined to press charges, but Gomes still was arrested and taken to jail.
