JENSEN BEACH, FL --The phone started ringing and the bad feelings came rushing back.
Ginny Luther watched the events at Fort Hood unfold on the news and her heart ached.
"I feel so deeply for the families of the ones that are waiting in angst in this moment for that knock on the door that's going to define that ugly moment," she said.
Luther's knock came in September of 2008.
Her son, 1st Lt. Robert "Bart" Fletcher, was shot and killed by a fellow soldier at Ft. Hood.
His killer was accused of stealing and selling sensitive information.
When Fletcher went to talk to him, the soldier shot him five times then turned the gun on himself.
"It's so tragic and it's so wasteful and it's so unnecessary," she said.
Ginny and Jack Luther set up a foundation in their son's honor.
They have a mission...to help other soldiers cope with the stress of service.
"That's my concern is how can we help, as a community and a country help these soldiers, not just on an individual level to deal with their emotional stress of dealing with the stress of war and then trying to re-emerge into a family life but the families and how can we support them," she said.
