JENSEN BEACH, FL-- Martin County Sheriff's Deputies lost no time catching and arresting a suspected bank robber.
The robbery call came in around 10:30 Monday morning from the PNC Bank on Jensen Beach Boulevard.
According to deputies, a man entered the bank and told a teller he was holding up the bank and left with an undisclosed amount of money, which included a red dye pack.
Armed with descriptions of a white male, about 40 years old, wearing blue jeans, a black hat and glasses, and the vehicle, deputies scoured the area.
About a half hour into the search they learned a witness had followed the suspect into the Cinnamon Tree development in Jensen Beach.
Neighbors say a man matching the suspect's description was seen entering a residence.
The tracked him down and found a man and woman inside.
According to the arrest affidavit when the woman was questioned she said, "He robbed a bank." She stated in between sobs that she thought he was joking.
Investigators identified the man as William Albert Crowell of Jensen Beach.
According to the arrest affidavit, Crowell admitted robbing the bank, acted alone, and was unarmed.
Investigators say Crowell was owned money for tile work he had completed, owed several bills and facing eviction because he was two months behind in his rent.
He faces a robbery charge. According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office Crowell also faces a fugitive from justice charge from the state of Massachusetts for violation of probation.
