JENSEN BEACH, FL -- The 911 call has been released in the case of two Martin County parents accused of leaving their infant inside of a locked minivan.
Here's a partial transcript of the call:
"Hi, I'm working at the Jo-Ann Fabric in Jensen Beach by Home Depot and there is a baby locked in a minivan in our parking lot and it is crying."
"Is there anyone on the minivan?"
"No, there is no one in the minivan."
"Oh my goodness."
According to the Sherriff's Office, a deputy responded to an 'unattended child left in vehicle' around 7 p.m. Monday night. When the deputy arrived, she located a vehicle with the windows up, not running. The doors were unlocked at the time. A baby was seen screaming and extremely distraught strapped inside of a car seat.
The deputy quickly removed the baby from the vehicle. The child appeared to be sweating and agitated. The child’s clothing was damp from perspiration and no supplies to care for the child were located, according to the deputy.
According to store management, the parents were paged over the intercom earlier asking for the owners of a minivan to get their child but no one came forward. When the deputy entered the store they paged them again and the deputy then placed the couple under arrest.
When the deputy confronted the pair, the mother and father appeared to be calm regarding the discovery of their child and became upset only when told they were being placed under arrest, according to the sheriff's office.
32-year-old Walter Lugo and 33-year-old Monica Luciana Alastra have been charged with one count of aggravated abuse, neglect of a child.
The baby is expected to be okay.
