INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL-- The Indian River County Health Department will hold its first H1N1 public vaccination clinic for eligible county residents Saturday, November 14th.
It will take place at the Indian River County Fairgrounds, 7955 58th Avenue in Vero Beach from 8 AM to 5 PM or until vaccine quantities are exhausted. A total of 4,000 doses will be available.
The vaccination is voluntary and free, according to the health department.
The vaccinations are intended for people identified by the CDC as being at highest risk for complications related to H1N1 influenza, those most likely to come in contact with H1N1, and those most likely to infect young infants, according to the health department.
Here are the guidelines: Pregnant women, persons aged six months through 24 years of age, household and caregiver contacts of children younger than six months of age, health care and emergency medical services personnel, and persons aged 25 through 64 years who have medical conditions associated with a higher risk of influenza complications such as diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and kidney disease.
Those younger than 18 years of age cannot sign the required consent form and must be accompanied by a family member or legal guardian authorized to provide consent. Children aged six months through nine years need to receive two doses of the H1N1 vaccine separated by an interval of 28 days (minimum 21 days) in order to develop the same level of immunity that older people attain from a single dose, the health department said.
All Indian River County H1N1 vaccination clinics will be posted on the
IRCHD Web site, and the Florida Department of Health (DOH)
H1N1 Web site. Public information about the H1N1 virus and vaccine also is available via the DOH H1N1 hotline: 1-877-FLA-FLU1 (352-3581).
