SEBASTIAN — No one was injured at the afternoon fire at the Seawinds Funeral Home and Crematory, said Indian River County Fire Marshal Brian Nolan.

About 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, fire rescue was called to Seawinds Funeral Home, 735 S. Fleming St., after a caller saw flames.

“The flames were visible and shooting through the roof,” Nolan said.

The fire was contained to the crematory, which is a small building separate from the funeral home, he said.

Inside the crematory, one body was inside a furnace while three other bodies were waiting to be processed, Nolan said.

All workers have been evacuated from the building. The cause is being investigated.
