INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL--An elementary school teacher is charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries at 66th Avenue and County Road 510 at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, arrest reports show.
Keri Gielow, 30, of the 500 block of S. Mirror Lake Dr., Sebastian, was released from the Indian River County Jail under a $16,000 bail, court record show.
The Dodgertown Elementary School teacher was not at school on Monday, a school official said.
Five occupants of a silver van were transported to Sebastian Medical Center for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
A large half-empty bottle of vodka was found in a handbag belonging to the teacher, according to law enforcement reports.
She refused a Breathalyzer test and when asked to take roadside sobriety tests, she said she wanted her attorney, reports show.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a man told troopers a cream-colored Lincoln automobile passed him on 66th Avenue at a turning lane for Liberty Magnet School and then the Lincoln collided with a silver van stopped at a stoplight at County Road 510.
The cream-colored car turned east on CR 510 and left the accident scene, according to the report.
Indian River County deputies picked up Gielow at 58th Court.
