WEST PALM BEACH, FL-- The folks at Feeding South Florida, formerly the Daily Bread Food Bank, in West Palm Beach, are getting ready for Thanksgiving.
"Those individuals who run pantries, and soup kitchens, and other non for profits come here and then distribute that food to other individuals in the community who need that food," said Darryl Clardy Sr., Director of Operations for Feeding South Florida's West Palm Beach branch.
And even though they have a lot of food going out, they also have a lot of food coming in.
"We got food drives going on all throughout the community," said Clardy.
The food bank could always use your help stacking the food, and they could always use your help sorting the food, but this year they could even use your help driving the food!
"Our driver, he goes on a regular route, so when I get these call-ins for these food drives I'm a little short on staff to get those food drives picked up," said Clardy.
Volunteers are needed to take food drive donations to the food bank, but if you don't have the time, a little cash doesn't hurt.
"One dollar makes six one-and-a-half pound meals on average," said Clardy.
But so much food is being distributed, the food bankd is actually outgrowing its own building.
"I have been here two years and we're on course to distribute probably a little over four million pounds of food out of this warehouse this year," said Clardy.
But the folks at Feeding South Florida will keep doing as much as they can, because hunger is all around us.
"In today’s economy it's so important to recognize that other people are feeling that even if we're not feeling it ourselves," said Clardy.
