PALM BEACH, FL -- Alec Lazo is ballroom dancing with a student at his studio in Palm Beach. But there's more going on with the instructors at the Paramount Ballroom. There is now a ballroom dance club for college students at Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Instructor Lauren Liutermoza says, "It's like a social ballroom dancing class, we go over the Waltz, the Tango, Fox Trot and the Salsa. All of the dances that students can go and do at weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, galas and any social dancing. And then the students that are more oriented to competing, furthering their performance, we have competitive classes here on Saturday mornings."

Liutermoza says many college students cannot afford the dance lessons which cost more than a hundred dollars per session.

"Through the funding of USA Dance, we now offer the classes for five dollars a couple and the students that can't pay we have fundraising events and we sponsor them," she said.

Then the students can show off what they have learned by dancing at the fundraisers. And there's no worry with their costumes.

The dance instructor uses donated formal dresses and decorates them with jewels for the dances.

The Paramount Ballroom, wanting to make a difference in the lives of college students. "We were showing the ladies their part and the gentlemen their part and it was really neat to see them come together and dance together for the first time. A lot of them were nervous, we were in there dancing with them. A lot of them had balance issues, put them in heels for the first time. We have really seen their self confidence just skyrocket," Liutermoza said.
