SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- Another victim of the downtrodden economy this time a beloved, long time West Palm Beach School.
With close to 700 students, Summit Christian School has been educating children for more than thirty years.
Now the school learns it has been foreclosed on.
Students Noah Anterburn and Nathan Ho hope its not so.
They have big dreams to make it on to the high school's championship basketball team.
"It's a great school," Anterburn said. "We are good at sports and good academically."
Parents agree the school is second to none.
"This is our home," said parent Kris Edel. "Our home when we're not home."
But like many real homes in Palm Beach County Summit Christian could soon be taken over by the bank.
"We don't have a lot of high end parents," said headmaster Sam Skelton. "We're working class. When it effects families, it effects us."
Skelton says many parents simply have not been able to make the full tuition costs couple that with a record low year of fundraising.
The school has defaulted now two months- on its 9 million dollar loan. The bank announced foreclosure this week.
Still- skelton says the Fighting Saints are still fighting.
"We've been around for thirty plus years," Skelton said. "We are very big in the community. That may step up and help us out."
Students like Noah and Nathan are praying help is on the way. Like many others in the community, they grew up in this school and can't imagine life without it.
"It's safe to talk about anything," Ho said "Anything we want to talk about."
The headmaster says he and the board are working on a plan and are hoping to talk with the bank about reworking their mortgage payment.
They have several fundraisers planned as well.
