LOXAHATCHEE, FL-- Thanksgiving came early for some chimps at Lion Country Safari.

Staff members handed out enrichment toys and food to the playful primates.

They received decorated turkey boxes packed with peanuts, popcorn and hay along with peanut butter and cranberry sandwiches, sweet potatoes, apples, corn on the cob and pumpkin pie all served on buffet tables made of hay.

Treats will also be given Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning at 10:45 a.m.

ChimpanZoo volunteers organized the event. According to Lion Country, ChimpanZoo is a program developed by renowned chimpanzee expert Jane Goodall. It's dedicated to the research, enrichment and education of captive chimpanzees.
