WEST PALM BEACH, FL- There is a warning from Ford Motor Company about a dangerous part that could affect some of the company’s cars and trucks.

Ford is sending out letters to car owners informing them about potential tire valve problems.

The Contact 5 Investigators first reported on this problem last year.

The company started mailing the letters last month informing owners that the federal government has identified a problem with the tiny piece of rubber that allows air to flow in and out of tires.

Some Ford cars could be affected.

“These are primarily 2007 model year vehicles across the entire Ford, Lincoln-Mercury lineup,” said Wes Sherwood, Ford Spokesman.

But Sherwood was quick to point out that the valve stem problem isn’t a Ford problem, and, in fact, the letters were more a warning, not a recall.

“(The letter) recommends normal tire pressure and tire maintenance as we describe in all of our owners manuals and other communication.  If (customers) have concerns or cracking or leaking of the valve stems, then they should contact their local dealer,” Sherwood said.

Contact Five exposed the danger of faulty tire valve stems after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed millions of bad valve stems, made in China, had been installed on several U.S. manufactured automobiles.
