Determining whether collectibles are trash or treasure requires real scrutinizing. For Tim, it meant wearing glasses.
"When I do my auctions, doing lectures, long days, long shoots...My eyes get tired and I was getting sick of that."
Tim has an astigmatism, which is a curvature of the cornea.
"When the surface of the eye is round we see single point nice and clear and sharp and curve an astigmatism we see a ghost image."
Tim is having lasik to correct the problem. This is the new generation lasik, with a procedure before surgery that helps to insure that the results are as exact as possible. To do that, Dr. Cliff Salinger of Palm Beach Gardens is scanning the irises of Tim's eyes. It's called wave scan iris registration.
"Now with the iris registration you are looking at the hills and valleys of your iris when you go from sitting to lying down position and your eyes rotate it can detect rotation and adjust treatment to where your iris is and the astigmatism is treated much more precisely."
The iris registration done on Tim's eye before surgery is then transferred to this computer. In the operating room, the doctors work from this to perform the procedure on Tim's eye and because of this he can do the procedure with greater precision than ever before.
The procedure takes 30 minutes and a week later..Tim is back on the set, with much better clarity.
"Oh my gosh."
"I look at things and can see better, the close up and the details of things the subtle details that i was missing before it makes a big difference."
**This procedure is generally not covered by insurance.
