There is already a shortage of nurses in this country and it's expected to get worse in the next decade.
As we continue to recognize Nurse's Week, WPTV and the Palm Healthcare Foundation are highlighting outstanding individuals in nursing.
Tonight, Roxanne Stein introduces us to a woman who is making nursing a passion for students.
"How did it feel in simulation? Good it gave us a real life scenario....he's sweating a lot...”
These nursing students are just a month away from graduation.
Along the way, they've been learning from someone with decades of experience.
"I think the biggest thing we do is make sure students have a solid foundation in clinical."
Priscilla Bartolone is the chair of nursing at South University-mentoring.
"This is for a license thru the state."
Teaching... "Some of the things you did were out of sequence."
And being a friend... "She’s a nurse first, but she's a mom at South University, she represents what nurses are about...”
Teaching skills that these new nurses will take in to a world where the landscape of health care is changing.
"You can't let stressful situations bring you down and discourage you, there's still good work to be done be part of the team part of solution and be willing to go the extra mile."
That attitude has had a lasting impact on her students.
"Her experience in the field is contagious, you do want to exceed and go further."
That sums up what Priscilla does...and it earned her the nurse educator of the year.
"This is a better way for me to give back to the community to make sure nurses have opportunity in education so they can be successful in practice."
In addition to leading South University to more advanced nursing programs, Priscilla is earning her doctorate in nursing.
