WEST PALM BEACH, FL--WPTV NewsChannel Five grew audience in each of its local newscasts during May sweeps and finished in first place in all seven competitive newscast time periods based on preliminary data from Nielsen. WPTV NewsChannel 5 was the only local station that saw household ratings growth in late news with an impressive 17% year-to-year increase Mon-Fri at 11pm and 22% Mon-Sun at 11pm.
In the morning, WPTV NewsChannel 5 added to its already huge audience increasing its ratings year-to-year an astounding 18% at 5am and 21% at 6am. NewsChannel 5 continues to beat WPEC and WPBF combined in the morning.
At noon, WPTV NewsChannel 5’s hour-long newscast ranked first and grew 4% from May 2008.
From 5-6pm, WPTV NewsChannel 5 continued its dominance by doubling the audience of its nearest competitor WPBF, while growing its year-to-year household rating 5%.
At 6pm, WPTV NewsChannel 5 finished with a 10.47 household rating besting WPBF’s 4.34 rating followed by WPEC in third place with a 3.98 rating.

May sweeps also saw WPTV NewsChannel 5 maintain its title as the most watched television station in Florida among Nielsen metered markets. WPTV’s sign on to sign off household rating was a 4.9, beating second place WBBH/Ft Myers by more than a full rating point with a 3.8.
