Homeless shelter for single women opening soon

Volunteers painting shelter for the homeless

LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Home Depot store manager Deanna Henry and 35 employees are donating their time painting this Lake Worth house. Deanna said, "Every year we donate millions of hours and supplies to try and help the community."

Diana Stanley, the CEO for the Lord's Place said the organization bought the house for housing single homeless women starting next month.

"Single homeless women oftentimes are a population that we do not have enough housing for and so this program is really dedicated to them, " said Diana.

Diana said the privately funded program will help the women live independently within six months.

"For example we hope to be able to provide a leadership academy, in which we believe every woman is a born leader and it's just a matter of bringing that leadership out of them. And working with community leaders, especially women to help empower women, " she said.

It's time volunteers like Deanna are investing by turning the house into a home.

"We've talked even about coming in and doing classes that will help them with some life skills when they get out on their own, " said Diana.
