TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida's Do Not Call list has grown by almost 400,000 phone numbers in one year.
The jump comes after state lawmakers passed a bill that eliminated fees associated with the registry.
Before the fee was eliminated on April 23, 2012, there were 71,460 phone numbers on the statewide list. Now, there are 464,047 phone numbers subscribed, protecting hundreds of thousands of Florida consumers.
Phone numbers on the list are not allowed to be called by telemarketers, solicitors, and scammers.
Anyone who would like to add a number to the list can call 1-800-HELP-FLA (435-7352) or, for Spanish speakers, 1-800-FL-AYUDA (352-9832). You can also sign up for the list online at http://www.800helpfla.com .
The state's Do Not Call list is updated quarterly.
